Double Pane Windows — The Standard in Energy Efficiency

Two layers of glass with argon gas fill and Low-E coatings — double pane windows deliver proven energy savings, noise reduction, and comfort at an excellent value.

What Are Double Pane Windows?

Double pane windows — also called dual pane or insulated glass windows — are the industry standard for residential window performance. Two layers of glass separated by a sealed, gas-filled airspace create a thermal barrier that dramatically outperforms single pane windows in every measurable category: energy efficiency, noise reduction, condensation resistance, and UV protection. At Revival Windows, our double pane windows feature Low-E coatings, argon gas fills, and warm-edge spacer systems as standard equipment — not upgrades. This means every double pane window we install delivers ENERGY STAR-level performance right out of the box.

For most homeowners replacing older windows, double pane units provide the ideal balance of performance and value — delivering substantial energy savings and comfort improvements at a price point that makes whole-home upgrades achievable.

Why It Matters

Why Double Pane Windows Matter for Your Home

If your home still has single pane windows, you’re losing a significant amount of energy — and money — through every window. Single pane glass provides almost no insulation, allowing heat to transfer freely between your home’s interior and the outside environment. Double pane windows reduce this heat transfer by 50% or more, which translates directly to lower heating and cooling bills.

Even if your home has older double pane windows with failed seals or outdated glass technology, upgrading to modern double pane units with current Low-E coatings and gas fills can improve energy performance by 25-40% over the older units. The technology has advanced significantly in the past 15-20 years, and today’s double pane windows perform at levels that required triple pane construction just a decade ago.

Benefits

Key Benefits of Double Pane Windows

Proven Performance

Double pane windows reduce heat transfer by 50%+ compared to single pane — the most impactful single upgrade for older homes.

Best Value

Double pane delivers the highest performance-per-dollar of any window configuration — ideal for whole-home upgrades.

Energy Savings

ENERGY STAR-certified double pane windows can reduce heating and cooling costs by 12-33% depending on what you’re replacing.

Noise Reduction

The sealed airspace and gas fill reduce outside noise by 25-35% compared to single pane windows.

Condensation Resistance

The insulating airspace keeps the interior glass surface warmer, dramatically reducing condensation in cold weather.

UV Protection

Low-E coatings block up to 99% of harmful UV rays, protecting your furnishings from fading.

Technical Specifications

Technical Details & Specifications

Our double pane windows feature two layers of glass separated by a sealed airspace of 1/2″ to 3/4″ filled with argon gas. Low-E coatings are applied to surface 2 (inside face of the outer pane) for cold climates or surface 3 (outside face of the inner pane) for hot climates. Warm-edge spacer systems use non-metallic materials to reduce thermal bridging at the glass edge.

The resulting U-factor ranges from 0.25 to 0.30, with SHGC values from 0.20 to 0.40 depending on coating selection. All units meet or exceed ENERGY STAR requirements for their respective climate zones.

Frequently Asked Questions

About Double Pane Windows

What's the difference between double pane and triple pane?

Double pane uses two layers of glass with one gas-filled chamber. Triple pane adds a third layer and second chamber for approximately 30-50% better insulation. Double pane is the best value for most homes; triple pane is recommended for extreme climates or maximum performance.

Do all double pane windows have Low-E and argon?

Not all — but ours do. Low-E coatings and argon gas are standard on every double pane window we install, not optional upgrades. This ensures ENERGY STAR-level performance on every unit.

How much better are modern double pane windows than ones from 15 years ago?

Significantly better. Advances in Low-E coatings, gas fills, and spacer technology mean today's double pane windows perform 25-40% better than comparable units from 15 years ago.
